Rhumba box provides a warm, springy bass foundation while banjo and guitar sketch the clipped lift of mento and early urban rhythm. Hand drums and maracas roughen the surface, then horn stabs, one-drop weight, and dub space gradually reshape the frame. The album's pacing is less about speed than placement: notes lean behind the beat, bass opens gaps, and echoes extend a short gesture into a larger room. Nyabinghi drum hierarchy and abeng-like calls add deeper, earthier contrast to the Kingston studio glow.
