Across Lake Malawi colours, ngoma drums pull gently beneath bright kalimba interlocks.

Low ngoma drums establish a rounded 6/8 and 12/8 pull, with ankle rattles tracing the lighter edges of each phrase. Kalimba and bangwe then bring two kinds of plucked detail: bright metallic interlocks against a drier, buzzing zither line with occasional sliding bends. The pace stays measured, yet whistles, wooden taps, and clipped guitar figures keep the music from settling into stillness. Across Lake Malawi guitar colours and the more urban Blantyre-Lilongwe pieces, the album balances close-grained percussion with open space and warm, economical melody.
